What is IMMEX program in Mexico?

The IMMEX Program was founded in the 90's and it was until 2006 that it was called the Manufacturing, Maquiladora and Export Service Industry Program, better known as the IMMEX Program today.

The purpose of the IMMEX Program is to strengthen the position of Mexico at a global level as a strategic player for global manufacturing companies that want to have a competitive cost in the manufacture of their goods.

Companies accredited under the IMMEX Program may import and dispose of said goods, without such operations being subject to the payment of import taxes, value added tax, compliance with some non-tariff regulations and even, through models such as the "OEM", it allows foreign companies to operate in Mexico without the need to establish themselves directly.

The IMMEX Program allows national or foreign companies to carry out, on their own or under a consignment model, the import of goods that will carry out the manufacture of finished products, which must be returned abroad within the terms of legal permanence in the country with which they enjoy said goods. This model encourages international collaboration and forces Mexico to maintain adequate infrastructure levels to operate and participate in projects with the most representative brands worldwide from various industries:

  • Industrial
  • Services
  • Shelter
  • Outsourcing
  • Holding

In order to apply and maintain it, the interested parties must, among other requirements, prove annual export sales for more than US $ 500,000.00 per year or for more than the 10% of the total annual sales. Today the most representative industries that take advantage of the IMMEX Program are:

  • Electronic
  • Automotive
  • Renewable energy
  • Telecommunications
  • Aerospace
  • Metal Mechanics
  • Tequilera, among others.
